“There are so many scenes and musical numbers I adore in this musical.  The wonderful thing is that I find myself constantly finding a new favorite number,” said Andrea Gilson, teacher at Notre Dame Academy now directing the January musical. “I honestly started making a list of some of my favorite songs and this answer became way too long.”

She is one of many people involved in this year’s musical The Addams Family.

The play is about a “weird and wonderful family” that has lived by “unique values” over hundreds of years. When one of the children falls in love and invites her boyfriend’s family to dinner, the Addams family faces what they have always avoided: change.

Gilson also pointed out that one of the reasons she chose The Addams Family Musical is because it has Broadway-style musical numbers, allows actors and actresses to truly demonstrate their acting skills and involves a larger cast and pit band.

“The musical is funny, ambitious and visually appealing,” she said.

“I think everyone in the musical fits their character, one way or another,” said Monica Sosa-Hernandez who plays Starlet, a very bossy person, in the play.

“I fit with my character in the way that I wish I would have her confidence,” said the actress.

Sosa-Hernandez explained that she is nervous about going on stage in front of so many people.

“I was in a musical in elementary school and I was so nervous that they had to put the second act before the first one because I couldn’t get out. It was a mess,” she said. “But I feel more comfortable with every rehearsal.”

“Rehearsals in December are typically 2 ½ hours but will become longer and more frequent in January,” Gilson explained.

The reason for that is because the first show will be on January 18 at 7 p.m.

Online ticket sales start January 1 at showtix4u.com and the NDA Box Office opens January 8.  Tickets are $14 for adults and $8 for children/students.

“Everybody should come,” said Sosa-Hernandez. “It’s going to be an amazing show and I’m super excited.”
