‘Amazing’ Musical Starts NDA Run This Week

“This musical is absolutely amazing with a ton of talent in the cast. We have worked extremely hard and for long hours to put on the best show for the audience,” said Katie Romes, senior at Notre Dame and a cast member in NDA’s production of The Addams Family.

The Addams Family hits the stage this week at Notre Dame Academy, and Romes is one of 70 students involved in this year’s production.

“We practice quite a bit,” Romes said. “It starts off from 2-3 days a week for about 2-3 hours in November, then goes to more extensive practices in December including some Saturdays. January is the most intense part of our practices. The entire cast is required to attend all practices in January which last for about three hours 4-5 times a week.”

The production is intensely preparing for their first performance this Thursday.

As crucial as the performers are for this musical, the unsung heroes are the individuals who help behind the scenes.

“The position of stage manager includes being the directors’ right-hand man. I also  recruit others who want to be involved in the arts in some way. I handle the stage set-up during every scene with the crew members,” said Sarah Lelinski, sophomore at NDA and stage manager for the production.

This is Lelinski’s first year being stage manager. Lelinski makes sure everything runs smoothly and that nothing goes wrong.

“I was passed down the position from my sister, Emily Lelinski. She was stage manager in the past and I would help her with small projects before I even came to Notre Dame. I was assistant stage manager last year and surprisingly people thought I did well, so Emily passed it down to me,” Lelinski explained. Her experience and knowledge working backstage is crucial to the success of the production.

“Everyone should definitely see this musical, not just because it will be better than ones in the past. It would mean the world to all of those in or helping with the musical if you all would come and see our work,” said Lelinski.

The Addams Family performs at Notre Dame Academy this Thursday through Saturday with Thursday’s show at 7 p.m., Friday’s performance at 7 p.m., and the final shows on Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
