“The beginning and the end of the second TGB (The Great Battle) were unreal,” said one audience member.  “Owen Campbell’s video to start the show and the talent competition topped off by Sheena’s win–wow! You couldn’t ask for anything more exciting!”

And everything in between was good too.

Friday’s Great Battle was the grand finale to Fall Festival Week, another highly successful, fun-filled week or so, coordinated by Student Government members and their advisers.

The week included events that ranged from PowderPuff to special dress days to the highly-anticipated Fall Fest Dance.  There was also a prayer service, a Monster Mash Potato Day and an all-out effort to raise money for Haiti, which has been recently bombarded with hurricanes and an earthquake.

“Members of Student Government and others who have responded to Frau’s call to help plan events have been meeting for weeks.  My room is right next to Frau’s (she’s the head of Student Government), and I hear all the committees meeting and planning before school starts.  Sometimes they have two committees going at once and have to use my room,” said Mrs. Carolyn Brown, English teacher.

Those behind Friday’s show also met on weekends to video and spent multiple afternoons planning and preparing.

With the audience voting via their PEDs, international student Sheena (Kinwen) Liang from China) danced away as the winner. Her traditional dance fascinated the NDA students and staff, who voted her the winner over stiff competition from others.

Frau (Jen Laaksonen) voiced her appreciation for all who danced, sang, participated in the games and worked behind the scenes.  “It was a great way to end the week,” she said.
