Notre Dame Academy hosts a fundraiser every year called the Triton Golf Classic.

This year the event will take place on Monday, June 3, at The Oneida Golf and Country Club.

“This event helps raise money and awareness for our student-athletes and athletic program here at Notre Dame,” said Mr. Geno McKenna, coordinator of the event.

The event was started by the Notre Dame Academy development department in 2000 to help support the NDA athletic program. This year will be the 19th Triton Golf Classic.

“Over 70 percent of our students participate in Notre Dame athletics, but I feel every student, in one way or another, is affected by the program,” said McKenna, director of events and alumni relations.

McKenna plans and manages the event and is responsible for all components of the outing.

“Just about every student is affected by NDA athletics–whether a student plays in the pep band, or goes to an athletic event or pep rally, or has a friend on a team,” he said. “Much of our NDA pride and spirit is derived from our athletic program, and we want to continue this tradition for many years to come.”

Notre Dame Academy’s goal is 132 golfers to attend the event. The golfers are composed of Notre Dame Academy parents, supporters and community members.

“The outing does branch out into the community and we appreciate the support,” said McKenna.

The participants of the event will golf an 18-hole scramble, enjoy lunch and dinner and participate in a ten-minute live auction.

“We will also have plenty of games on the course as well as the Triton Tailgate Zone which will be located on the course,” said McKenna

Students, with their teammates, often volunteer during this event.

“The students help carry golf bags, sell raffle tickets and compete in the ‘swap-a-shot’ game on the course,” said McKenna.

The money from the event helps pay for coaches, transportation to sports games, uniforms and officials.

“This year participants have an opportunity to win two tickets, with hotel and airfare, to next year’s Super Bowl in Miami, Florida,” explained the director.
