This year the month of October will be “Fun-tober,” a month full of activities, dress-down days, powderpuff, the return of TGB (the Great Battle) and even more.
Student government has planned many activities including a variety of dress down days, a soda bar, Academy Award selections, a book drive for Altrusa House and a food drive for Paul’s Pantry.
“November is going to be a downer,” said Mrs. Carolyn Brown while Mrs. Holly Hinch, the student government advisor was speaking to the Journalism class about this event. But then Hinch reminded everyone November would be filled with Academy Awards preparations.
In past years, NDA has had “Fall Fest Week,” but this year student government decided to plan and an entire month and encourage even more participation and student involvement.
A soda bar during lunch on October 9 will be the first “new” endeavor of Fun-tober. The Fall Fest Dance concludes the week on Saturday night.
Every Friday will bring new and different dress-down days, such as “Multiples Day” where students and staff dress matching multiple friends, “Cozy Fall Day” where a stuffed animal can be brought to school, and then “Class Color Day” where each class wears the color of their respective team’s Powderpuff jerseys.
Fun-tober also highlights two service-oriented projects–a food drive for Paul’s Pantry and ASTRA’s book drive for the Altrusa Hospitality House.
If the school meets the goal of 600 items for Paul’s Pantry, student government promises another dress down day of fall colors.
Those who bring in books to donate will receive a free baked good, such as brownies, cupcakes or cookies.
Looking at the calendar of events, Hinch said, “I’m most excited for TGB and the variety of the show.”
