How old is too old for trick or treating?

Most people would like to say never, but there seems to be a certain age that is socially acceptable for trick or treating.

Everybody can remember as a kid going around in the neighborhood with your $60 costume that you wore once and getting free candy. It was the best!

But at some time in recent years your trick or treating turned into Halloween hangouts and parties with friends, and you said goodbye to the tradition of trick or treating.

Personally, I believe the last time a person should go trick or treating is eighth grade. You are still seen as a kid and before you say hello to high school, you have to leave your pre-teen years with one last Halloween trick or treat.

I feel as I answer the door to my house on Halloween night, and I see a group my age asking for free candy, I’m thinking, “You know, you are old enough to have a job and buy your own candy instead of taking it from these little kids who can’t work and probably deserve it more.”

Although I think it is a little strange, I won’t openly tell somebody I’m not giving them candy because of their age.

However, do not be surprised if you get something like an Almond Joy or Mounds from me because I will save the actually good candy for the younger kids.

Another important part of Halloween is the costumes, and in my opinion nobody is too old for a good costume.

Costumes and candy are the two biggest parts of Halloween, and you can enjoy both for your entire life. However, whether the candy is free or not will most likely change over time.
