Track Team Excelling in Division 2 Competition

The NDA track team has had a successful year and that was confirmed on Monday of this week.

The team competed at the Division 2 regional track meet on Monday, May 20.

This is the first year in the last eight years that NDA has been allowed to compete at the Division 2 level.

“It’s nice because we get to compete with other schools that are actually our size and we don’t have to deal with Kimberly,” said head coach Molly French.

With the team in Division 2, NDA is able to avoid powerhouses like Kimberly, Bay Port and Preble and now has an even greater chance of representing at state.

On Monday every single girls relay team advanced to the sectional along with field event competitors in long jump and triple jump.

The girls won the regional meet and had several people advance to sectionals. For example, Ellie Rose, Georgia Gregoire, Anna Grzelak, Josie Sullivan and many more will compete on Thursday at the sectional meet in Freedom.

The boys team also did very well and will be having many people representing NDA at the sectional meet.

The boys won nearly every relay and will advance in the 4×200, 4×100, and 4×400 meter relays along with individual victories in the 100 by Cade Vanhout and in the 200.

“I’m super excited for the sectional, and I hope both the girls and guys can run their hardest so they can go to state,” said French.

With the sectional being the final step towards state many athletes are looking to repeat what they did last year in order to advance. Rose and Charlie Sauter will be looking to make their return by trying to qualify in multiple events.

Rose (4×100, long jump and triple jump) made it to state last year for long jump and will be looking to return again this year.

Sauter sustained an injury a few weeks ago but is hoping to run this Thursday so that he can help his 4×400 and 4×200 relays make it to state. Last year Sauter made it to state in the open 400 meter dash and qualified for finals at state.

If you wish to watch the Sectional meet, you can go to the meet in Freedom on Thursday, starting with field events at 3:30 and running events at 4 p.m.
