March Madness came to NDA in an innovative way this year.
Student Government organized the school’s own bracket of teams who played during advisory the past few weeks.
Thursday’s championship game pitted the senior team (Alphas) against a team of junior players (Cinotto and Company). The 15-minute finale ended with a 16-14 win by the seniors.
Senior players included Dashel DeMarco (captain), Danny Gagan, Abe Augustine, Deacon Hozeska, Quinn Conway, George Smullen, Leo Deruyter and Carson Blahnik.
Advisories, the NDA equivalent of a homeroom, had the option of attending the games in the Triton Center.
“I’m glad we got to do it,” said Gagan. “This was a great idea and makes March even better. I hope we’ve started a new tradition.”
“I enjoyed all the games,” said veteran teacher Carolyn Brown. “My freshmen were very involved and represented their class really well. As for that championship match, it was super intense. Abe (Augustine) was the difference with his three-pointers.”
