Auditions Set for Spring Play, Dory Excited to Direct Play About Siblings

Anyone who has siblings knows how difficult it can be to get along with them all the time. This year’s spring play highlights the highs and lows of life with siblings throughout the decades.

Mutually Assured Destruction, abbreviated as MAD, will be directed by  our own Notre Dame Spanish teacher, Mrs. Crystal Dory.

This is something I have always wanted to do.  In high school I was in theatre year round and in a theatre company downtown Milwaukee.  I also worked for a summer in Vail, Colorado.  I have worked onstage and backstage but I have never directed.  I cannot wait for this new experience,” said Dory about directing the spring play.

The play is a little different than what people may be used to. It is actually ten shorter plays all put together. Starting with a play in 1920 and ending in one from 2015, the plays show the century-old, everyday battles of a life with siblings. Mutually Assured Destruction shows them all–from fights about parents’ divorce to wedding escape plans.

“It is new and very different.  I also chose it because I can relate to the stories of sibling love and sibling fights, as I am the youngest of four.  My siblings have always been and will always be a big part of my life,” said Dory.

There will be about twenty people cast in the play.

“I like the idea of having a good-size cast, and I hope auditions will draw in many students,” said the director.

Auditions will be held in Notre Dame’s auditorium on Tuesday, March 21, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and on Wednesday, March 22, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. If students would like to audition for the play, they can prepare a two to three-minute monologue that showcases their strengths. The monologue should be memorized, but it is not required.

“Definitely come out and audition!  This is going to be a fun experience,” said Dory.

If acting in a play isn’t for you, make sure to come and see Mutually Assured Destruction on Thursday May 11, Friday May 12 or Saturday May 13.
