Mrs. Andrea Gilson, English teacher and musical director, recently announced this year’s musical will be Freaky Friday.
“I wanted to direct a more modern show. This show has incredible music and appeals to teenagers and adults. It is a fun show with catchy songs, modern dance numbers and numerous characters,” said Gilson.
Freaky Friday is about an overworked mother and her teenage daughter who magically switch bodies and have just one day to make everything right again. By spending a day in each other’s shoes, Katherine and Ellie come to appreciate one another’s struggles, learn self-acceptance and realize the immeasurable love and mutual respect that bond a mother and daughter.
The musical, based on the celebrated novel by Mary Rodgers and hit Disney films, is a heartfelt, comedic, and unexpectedly emotional update on an American classic.
“It will require a larger cast,” explained Gilson. There will be nine lead and supporting roles, along with 16 featured roles.
This cast is balanced with an equal number of male and female roles. Despite the two main leads being females, there are numerous male leads and supporting roles.
“There are dancing roles only, similar to what we offered in Footloose,” said Gilson. “Auditions are October 7 and 8. The details are posted on Google Classroom which I encourage everyone to join, even if it’s just to gather information.”
The code to join is chrsttm.
A meeting for students who are interested in joining the stage crew will be in mid-November.
