Pep Band, a co-curricular activity composed of band class members, is a big contributor to Notre Dame Academy’s school spirit.
The Pep Band performs at home sports games for sports like football, hockey and basketball. The band plays for pep assemblies and a couple of parades a year. Pep band also leads teams and groups who go to state in the “ walk of champions” tradition.
Attending and performing at events counts towards each student’s band grade, so attendance is noted and leads to good turnouts at every performance.
Songs performed are mostly practiced at the beginning of the year in class but are re- visited and practiced if needed.
Mr. Steve Johnson, band director and pep band advisor at NDA, claims that each year the band is different and new.
“This year the band went down to Madison to play at Camp Randall for the state football championship game, which was really exciting,” said Johnson about this year’s band adventures.
Efforts to grow the band community at Notre Dame include working with GRACE schools to recognize Future Triton band members. A Future Tritons Band night will be held Tuesday, February 18.
“My hope is to keep growing the band and the program,” said Johnson.
Johnson recognizes the following students as band standouts: Dominic D’Angelo, Amelia Chrudimsky and Gabby Jackson. They are all drum majors and have been doing an exceptional job, according to their adviser..
“The students are doing a great job,” said Johnson.
