“Kids should join the Show Choir because it is a great opportunity to make music in an ensemble with your classmates,”said Mrs. Maria Hinnendael, the Notre Dame Academy choir teacher.
Show Choir is different from regular choir because Show Choir is an extracurricular ensemble, and choir is a class during the day.
Show Choir’s repertoire consists of pop music and music theater pieces. It also showcases movement and choreography.
Traditional choirs generally sing more standard repertoire and have limited movement.
To audition for show choir students should sing a two-minute music theater piece and upload it to the Google Classroom audition page.
Hinnendael said, “I have hopes that the Show Choir will continue to grow and represent the Notre Dame Academy in the community! We will continue to perform at community events, at Notre Dame Academy sporting and musical events, and even compete in show choir competitions.”
Students may also audition with Mrs. Hinnendael in person if they prefer that over the virtual format.
NDA Singers Show Choir does not have a definite number of members in its cast; it depends on how many people audition.
“In my time at Notre Dame Academy from 2010-2014, Show Choir was a staple in our music program and was a group that most students strove to be in. It’s my job to present opportunities that will help students grow as people and musicians,” said Hinnendael.
Current members may remain in the group, but new members need to audition.
