“I plan to go to college to get a degree in science, probably biology, and start my journey to become either a physical therapist or physician assistant,” said NDA senior Sophia Baek.
Baek is in NDA’s Career Explorations class. She currently is an intern physical therapist at Bellin Health in Titletown.
“I heard about a new class that was starting next semester. This immediately intrigued me as I was always interested in learning more about myself and my career possibilities. I knew this was an opportunity I could not miss,”said Baek about why she joined the class.
At Bellin, Baek does many things such as shadowing evaluations, getting trained on specific equipment and their computer system, shadowing different types of injuries, as well as helping physical therapists by grabbing things they need like weights, bands, and equipment.
“During this time, the physical therapists give me explanations about the patient’s injuries and how they are working to get them stronger. They explain the recovery time and process they need for each patient while showing different types of exercises. On other days, you can see me at the computer running cameras and devices for a physical therapist when they are with their clients,” said Baek.
“After high school, I plan to go to college to get a degree in science, probably biology, and start my journey to become either a physical therapist or physician assistant,” she added.
She explained how this program is great to get a headstart in your career interest.
“Getting to know what happens in the job is important. It helps give more of an insight into your future. Another benefit of doing this program is that you could realize that the job isn’t for you, and you may want to pursue another career,” she said.
Baek talked about her passion, appreciation, and recommendation for this program, saying, “I would highly recommend this program to others as it can help them find their true passion and future careers. This program gives students a great opportunity and lets them finish off their senior year on a good note.”
