Between semesters, sophomore Aspen Abel and her family moved from Beaver Dam to Green Bay. With that, Aspen found herself at Notre Dame when school started back up.
“I had a lot of mixed emotions before coming to NDA. Not only was I starting a new school, but I was also moving from the only town and home that I knew,” said Abel.
She explained that she was nervous to start and sad to leave her friends in Beaver Dam, but she was also excited to have a fresh start and meet new people.
Because her family moved, Abel was not subject to the WIAA transfer rules. This means that she was able to jump in and pick up where she left off with basketball season.
“Everybody at NDA was so nice and welcoming when I arrived. But 100%, it definitely helped to be a part of a team right away,” she explained.
Abel went on about how she felt included, welcomed and supported right away when she met the team. She also recommends others in her situation to not be scared and get involved with things right away.
Abel’s teammates, coaches, teachers, and classmates all were a big help in “feeling at ease” when she first started.
“I am overwhelmed with gratitude to be part of NDA and this team. These girls helped create amazing and unforgettable memories. I have so much love for these girls. They were such great role models and leaders to not only me but many others,” said Abel.
She continued, “My favorite memory could be the first basket I scored as a Triton against De Pere at home, or the basket I scored at the state tournament at the Resch Center with the clock ticking down, but my favorite memory is and will always be from this season… the entire state basketball week. Nothing from this season beats the energy, excitement, and the fun with teammates and coaches from the incredible chance to play at the state tournament.”
Abel is so thankful for her first few months here. She said, “I have so much gratitude for everyone who helped make my transition to NDA so positive.”
