To celebrate National Bow-Tie Day on Wednesday, the Morning Show saluted one of the most important members of the NDA teaching staff–IB Coordinator Matthew Shultz.
“My main job right now as the IB Coordinator is to help present the curriculum, educate the teachers on what to do and recruit students to the program,” said Shultz, an NDA alum.
Shultz was named the IB Coordinator in 2010, and has held that position ever since, but he has been involved with Notre Dame since the early 2000s.
“I first started as a long-term sub for Mrs. Campbell in 2000,” said Schultz.
Schultz has held multiple positions at Notre Dame since he graduated from UW Eau Claire. He has had roles such as Dean of Students and even served as interim principal for six months.
“That experience told me that I do not want to do that,” said Shultz, talking about his brief stint as principal.
Shultz has become synonymous with his fashionable bow-ties.
“I have give or take 50 bow-ties. It’s been at least ten years of wearing them. I wear them because the majority of men who wear ties do not,” said the coordinator.
He does have a small collection of clip-on ties that were given as gifts, and his personal favorite is his tie with a Thomas Jefferson replica signature on it.
It may be a stretch to call Shultz a fashionista, but there is no denying that he is keeping the bow-tie in style with the way he sports it.
