Senior Gabby Jackson appreciates and enjoys her role as a drum major for the school’s band.
That in-depth role in the band includes conducting the band at assemblies, events and other activities along with her two other drum major peers.
In addition to directing, Jackson also plays the clarinet and saxophone. Jackson is a part of the jazz ensemble as well as the pit orchestra.
“I enjoy being a band leader because I get to further my relationship with my peers and be a role model for the younger students,” said the senior.
Jackson’s enjoyment and love for band has been in her life throughout her high school career.
“I have been in the band for four years, and I have thoroughly enjoyed every part of it,” she said.
Jackson has chosen to take music-related classes and be a part of the band community at NDA because it allows her to express her creativity.
“It is a way to practice musicianship and collaboration,” she explained.
Partnered and often leading with Dominic D’Angelo, Jackson said the two have been friends since pre-K at St Bernard’s School.
Over her four-year high school band career Jackson has made memories and built relationships all while pursuing her creativity.
“The deep relationships I have fostered with my peers and my teachers have taught me invaluable lessons and given me great opportunities,” she said.
Next fall Jackson will attend UW-Madison where she will study biological sciences. Her dream is to follow the pre-medical path.
She heads to Madison with an appreciation for her music experience at NDA.
“Notre Dame Band has shaped me as a student and person by teaching me growth and patience through the various opportunities that it has provided,” she said.
