Learning Resource Specialist Mr. Cassidy McGowan and his wife Jaime have been married for 18 years.
They met at Marquette University in Milwaukee before the end of their second to last year.
“It was the second to last week before finals and I was going rollerblading by the lake with my friend and when we came back there was a group of people in front of my dorm by the Union. We stopped to play football,” said McGowan.
His wife happened to be one of the people throwing the football.
“People started to leave, and we were the only two left throwing the football. The next day I went up by her room to introduce myself,” he added.
Her friends happened to be going to the same party he and his friends were going to that Friday night where they ended up starting to talk.
“We stayed in touch over the summer and talked on the phone all the time. I asked her out over the phone one time when we called,” he said.
The couple dated for four years and got engaged at Bradford Beach in Milwaukee.
“We had picked out the ring in the middle of summer when we were home, so she knew it was coming. I brought it with me back to school for our fifth year,” said McGowan.
It wasn’t a big proposal, but they were sitting on the park bench during sunset.
They got married in Green Bay at St. Bernard’s on July 15, 2006, and their reception was at the hotel across from Stadium View.
“We left for our honeymoon the next day. We traveled to Chicago to fly out to Ireland where we went to County Mayo,” he added.
They rented out a small castle, and it was just the two of them, which he described as “special.”
The couple loves to go for walks, travel, watch movies, and be in each other’s company.
They also share common interests in sports, faith and values.
His wife works as a Patent Examiner at the US Commerce Department where she looks at inventions to see if they can be accepted or not.
“We actually moved to Washington D.C. for a couple of years for her career, and I taught third grade down there,” he added.
They have three kids that are 13, 12 and 10.
McGowan would describe his wife as “my better half.”
