Notre Dame will introduce the John Nowak Memorial Scholarship this upcoming May to provide tuition support to a student who needs assistance.

According to Mr. Kevin Shaw, two friends of NDA started the scholarship who have a “special appreciation for the dedicated service of Mr. Nowak as a teacher and coach at NDA for so many decades.”

“They wanted to do something that he [Coach John Nowak] would be proud of,” said Chris Nowak.

The scholarship will be awarded to an incoming freshman each year in May.

The recipient is not required to be an athlete but must maintain a 3.0 or higher GPA.

According to Mr. Ken Flaten, the scholarship will be renewable each year as long as the GPA is maintained.

The amount of the scholarship has not been determined yet since the amount depends on the growth of the Nowak Scholarship Fund.

The fund will expand each year with the recipient receiving 5% of the total amount in the fund at the time.

All of the qualifications for the recipients have not yet been decided.
