Tucker the Elf, an “Elf on the Shelf” from the North Pole, comes back every year as Christmas approaches. He moves everyday to a new spot in the school.
Math teacher Bryan Konshak is behind this festive tradition. Tucker the Elf has been coming to NDA since 2016 when “Elf on the Shelf” was becoming popular.
Konshak explained that he got Tucker from a past student who had an extra.
Tucker’s contest is also run by Konshak. Each day as Tucker hides in a different spot, students can find him and take a picture. This goes on daily. Then, they email the picture to Konshak.
The prize is usually a donation by other staff members, such as Mrs. Brown’s brownies, and Konshak will throw in something of his own as well.
Winners are chosen randomly, and Mr. Konshak puts the winner on the written Notre Dame announcements as well as emailing the winner.
The drawing where the winners are picked is done the Monday before exams.
Konshak usually gets about 3-4 entry pictures on a daily basis, which, he explained, “is a slow year.”
The event is not without its challenges.
“One time he was held ransom for several hours. With a bit of arm twisting we got him back with no problems,” said Konshak.
Tucker doesn’t usually go missing but when he does, it only takes away from other players.
