The student-favorite tradition of Food Truck Friday is returning to Notre Dame Academy next week Friday, May 10, with 55 minute lunches.
“It started as a suggestion by the Executive Board of Student Government as a new tradition to do,” said Frau Laaksonen, the organizer of the tradition.
The tradition was first proposed by alumni Sam Moss as a new thing to do for students.
“I think because it takes place in May, it feels very celebratory and the variety of trucks makes it fun. We have been very blessed to have very good weather days, and this allows kids to hang out outside with friends. Also, different things for lunch makes it a nice change of pace,” said Frau.
There will be six food trucks.
The trucks will be El Bistro Tacos, Rusty’s BBQ, Lil’ Jamaica, Inferno Heat Hibachi, Blue Suede and Rollin’ Cubanos.
Frau also stressed what students should know about the day.
“The majority of the food trucks will take cards and cash, but Inferno Heat Hibachi will take only cash. They need to have a few different food trucks in mind, and if they can’t get through the lines, they need to make a different plan. I don’t see an issue this year, but you have to play it by ear. You have to be flexible,” Frau said.
There will be a special schedule for the day with each lunch being 55 minutes.
Students that are going to eat in the commons have to leave the commons at 11:30.
Students will either need to go outside or into the Triton Center.
The commons will be open for 25 minutes each lunch period.
Frau also coordinated which food trucks would come to the event.
“I fight against other local schools. I called and reached out to them all the way back in December. It is based on word of mouth and people that know about food trucks,” Frau said.
Frau also looked to the future of the event.
“I don’t see it going away, and I think we will hope to continue having a good number of trucks here so that people that want to be a part of the tradition can be,” Frau said.
