Sophomore Matthew Moulton recently attended the Military Service Academy and Naval Academy Info Day. His experience was so valuable that he is encouraging others to attend a similar event in Oshkosh on Sept. 21.
Representatives from the U. S. Air Force, Coast Guard Academy, Merchant Marine Academy, Military Academy at West Point and the Naval Academy will be at the EAA Aviation Center from 9 a.m.–12:30 p.m.
“I have wanted to attend the Academy for years, and I know that meeting with former attendees and blue and gold officers would help me gather information on what I would need to have a successful, or at least strong, application,” said Moulton.
His sister’s naval commitment and graduation from the Naval Academy definitely piqued Moulton’s interest in the military.
“Usually you would have to go out seeking individuals for information, but at the meetings, all the resources are right there for you,” he explained.
He learned what classes and extracurriculars look good for the college application, along with some up-and-coming majors for the future years.
“I learned about what my life would be like after the Academy and what career options I had,” said the attendee.
Alumni Jacob Rose attended the Naval Academy after his graduation from NDA in 2017.
Rose is now a helicopter pilot for the Navy.
“I hope that students are able to receive any information and ask any pertinent questions so that they can make an informed decision about the prospect of applying for the Naval Academy or any service academy in general,” said the pilot.
The students that do attend those events shouldn’t be discouraged from applying.
Although he wasn’t able to attend them preceding his application, things did work out for Rose in the end.
