With the new school year, a new freshman class president, along with two freshman senators and two freshman advocates, will join NDA Student Government.
Eight candidates, more than usual, competed for class president. The well-spoken candidates each gave their speeches to the freshman class.
After the freshmen heard all the speeches, Frau Laaksonen, head of Student Government, released the voting form, and by the end of the day a presidential candidate had been elected.
This year’s freshman class president is Eddie Lagowski.
“I wanted to be involved in the school more,” said Lagowski. His main goal, he said, is to make more people feel heard. He wants people to know that he will take his role seriously.
Frau mentioned that there are more student government opportunities for those who are interested.
“We encourage people to support one another,” said Frau.
Applicants for advocates and senators do not have to speak in front of the freshman class.
Two freshman advocates will join representatives from the other three classes in the service arm of Student Government, the Outreach Branch.
Two other freshmen will be selected as Senators and serve in the policy branch of Student Government.
“This freshman class has really impressed me with their desire to get involved,” said English teacher Carolyn Brown. “Hopefully they all realize there is nothing but spirit and attendance required to become a part of the newest branch of Student Government–the Academy Fans.”
