The first blood drive of the school year will be held October 10.
Student leaders Frannie Wied, Izzy Ferguson and Wally Lulloff have been signing up donors.
This year the blood drive will be partnered with the Community Blood Center, a local organization that provides blood to over 40 regional hospitals.
“The blood that NDA students and staff are donating is being put to use directly in our community,” said Weid.
Every two seconds, someone in the United States is in need of blood, and one blood donation can save up to three lives.
Patients, especially those undergoing cancer treatments, surgery, or traumatic injuries are in most need of blood.
“The blood draw itself takes only 10-15 minutes but can have a profound impact on someone’s life, ” Wied explained.
This year’s goal is 45 time slots. However, there are 68 time slots available to ensure the goal is met.
“This is to ensure we hit our goal in case anyone is sick, cancels or can’t donate. Each donation is around a pint of blood,” said Weid.
Students who are interested in becoming donors must be 17 or 16 with parental consent, meet height and weight requirements and undergo a health screening.
“The blood drives are always an amazing experience. It’s incredible to see the alumni gym transformed into a donation center in under an hour, and Notre Dame and its donors can have a transformative impact on someone’s life because of a donation,” continued the senior.
Students who meet the requirements are encouraged to donate blood. The link to donate is
