“My favorite part was creating better relationships with everyone else in the retreat and learning more about other people I didn’t know before,” said senior Mia Miller about last year’s Kairos retreat. Kairos is a Greek word that means “the opportune and decisive moment.”
An optional overnight retreat for juniors and seniors, the Kairos retreat is organized by Campus Minister Kelly Waters. Ten juniors and seniors will be participating this weekend, February 27-28, and Miller is a student attending again this year.
“During the retreat the kids will have talks, small groups, Mass/prayer, free time and lots of food,” said Waters. The overnight stay will be held at a retreat center in Menasha.
“The whole retreat is about encountering Jesus in our daily lives, and it can be as personal as someone makes it,” explained the campus minister.
Adult leaders for the retreat are Mr. Cassidy McGowan, Fr. Jordan and Mrs. Jean Thillman.
Senior leaders for the retreat include Miller, Kinsey Gallagher, Morgan Gokey, Milena Schwitzer and Greta Fangman.
The talks by the student leaders are a high point of the retreat for Fr. Jordan.
“Some of the most impactful moments are the talks by the leaders,” he said. “You realize you’re not alone in your struggles and walk with God.”
Miller echoed his sentiments, saying, “This retreat is so much more impactful than I think most people realize. Kids should go because they want to be in an atmosphere where they are capable of creating a better relationship with God.”
