Student Services has organized a tour of the Great Lakes Educational Center on April 9 for students interested in energy-related careers.
Counselors Becky Bain and Mrs. Kristen Gast will accompany the eight students who have signed up for the morning visit at NWTC.
By providing a field trip like this, students are able to see first hand what academics and careers entail. It also provides other pathways that are available at NWTC.
“It’s a great way for them to be on-site, get hands-on experience and be able to ask questions of the professions,” said the counselors.
On the field trip, they will partake in a guided tour of NWTC’s Energy Center, participate in interactive sessions with the professors and experience hands-on demonstrations.
“Students will get to see the classrooms as well as the training rooms and sites,” said Bain.
They will hear from experts in the field of energy and tour labs that match real-world environments, including an indoor/outdoor electrical power distribution lab, an energy management mechanical lab, a solar lab and a gas utility lab.
This field trip aligns with the counselors’ goal of helping students make informed decisions about their futures, whether that is college, trade school, military or workforce.
“Students that are attending this field trip will have the chance to ask questions, network, and potentially discover a passion they hadn’t considered before,” added Gast.
This is a beneficial way for students who are unsure of their post-high school pathways, an opportunity to experience and understand different career options and explore potential interests.
Students will also be able to gain clarity as to whether energy is a field they want to pursue or not.
