The annual Pancake Run/Walk has now been changed to Pancakes and Pickleball because of the renovations being done to the turf and track this spring.
The event will be held on May 8 at 5 p.m. in the NDA faculty parking lot, right near the tennis courts.
Bryan Konshak, pancake master and innovator of the annual event, picked the date for this year because all sports teams are condensing their practices and games into April, so there wasn’t a free date.
“Pickleball is growing exceptionally in popularity, so I thought it would be a good year to try it,” he said.
Funds raised through the event will go to the NDA Closet.
The NDA Closet supports students who are in need of money for lunch, school supplies, tutoring, athletic and school fees, and so much more.
“I have decided to make the NDA Closet my main donation over the last several years due to my own observations on the growing needs of students at NDA,” said Konshak.
People can sign up via the posters he has posted around school and the signup link in the written announcements – https://ndpickleball25.givesmart.com/
Konshak also has sponsors who will be able to participate in the event.
Students are to register by April 23 if they would like to participate in the pickleball tournament. The cost is $50 per team, which includes pancakes and a shirt.
If anyone would rather just join to go and watch the fun, eat some pancakes and get a shirt, the cost is $20.
“Come participate in a great opportunity to play pickleball with your friends and meet new ones. This is a friendly round-robin event where the scores do not matter,” said Konshak.
No one is required to have any prior pickleball experience, and all are welcome.
Konshak is expecting a big turnout and will be capping off incoming teams at 55, so get your team in early if you want to participate in the fun.
If the event gets rained out, Konshak will still be making pancakes in the commons for those who signed up to participate. If there is a circumstance where the event needs to be cancelled, there will not be a rain date or a refund, but he is advising people to still “come and pick up your shirt.”
