Last week, the NDA Lifeguard’s Pro-Life Club wrapped up its third annual diaper drive to support the A&A Alexandrina Center.
The A&A Alexandrina Center is a movement started by Catholic women who wanted to help with unexpected pregnancies.
“They want women to know they don’t have to get an abortion, but there are people in the community who want to help care and provide for the child and family. The center provides diapers, clothes, car seats–ways to help families care and support their baby,” said Fr. Jordan.
In 2023 NDA donated 8,190 diapers and in 2024,10,006. This year’s goal was set at 15,000. Even though the goal wasn’t met, the NDA community brought in a total of 11,324 diapers.
Along with supporting a great cause, classes were able to compete to bring in the most diapers to win a pancake breakfast cooked by Associate Principal Greg Masarik and Fr. Jordan.
“I’m really impressed by Mr. Guyette’s 1st-period class that brought in 4,304 diapers,” said Fr. Jordan. “Mr. Guyette’s class last year lost by nine diapers, so I’m really excited to see his class win. Mr. Guyette has been a big advocate of the diaper drive to his students, so it’s exciting to see his class win.”
This diaper drive is a very important part of the Pro-life and NDA Lifeguards ministry at NDA.
“Many in the pro-life movement don’t simply pray for an end to abortion or advocate for policy changes which ban abortion (although this is good and should be done), but we’re also called to action,” explained Fr. Jordan.
“Some women may feel they cannot afford a baby and so they contemplate abortion. This is where we have to help so that abortion is never ever a thought. The diaper drive is a great way for moms (and expecting mothers) to know they have people who care about them and want to help,” continued the priest.
“Every life is precious, both in the womb and outside of the womb, and we are to protect and care for our brothers and sisters in Christ. The diaper drive is important because it recognizes the dignity of every person in that they have a right to life and a right to be cared for and cared about.”
