As a student at NDA with allergies, I would like to say how most allergy resources and safety precautions in the school are very unknown to me
I am in my second year here and still have no clue what resources I have to reach out to about my allergy and problems I have with it.
As everyone knows, Chick-Fil-A Day is coming soon, and they use peanut oil in cooking their chicken. I realized I was never told who to reach out to about what a student with peanut allergies like mine should do if they can not be near food like that.
Going along with that is my concern with students not having wipes to wipe down desks before classes because they fear hands have not been washed at lunch and could contaminate the surface. Will teachers have wipes handy for someone like me to use?
Another problem with allergies in the school is that students could and are probably wondering if most staff members even know how to use an epi pen if needed. This was never told in any safety or informational meeting among the students.
I know probably not many people have allergies in the school, but for someone who does have allergies, this issue and my concerns should be more apparent, so we can feel safer at NDA.
