For the first time in its history, Notre Dame Academy proudly hosted a swim meet
“I was honored to represent NDA’s swim team at our very first home meet this year at St. Norbert College,” said Ali Weise, one of the team captains.
Weise has been a dedicated member since the team’s inception during her sophomore year. Now in its third year, the team has grown steadily and boasts 12 current members.
Head Coach Julie Collison, in her first year leading the program, expressed her gratitude for the support from the NDA athletics department.
“Matt Koenig, NDA’s Athletic Director, has been a tremendous supporter of the sport, along with the parents of our swimmers,” said Collison.
The team practices diligently at the Salvation Army Kroc Center five days a week from 4 to 6 p.m. Scheduling practice time has been challenging, but the team is hopeful for more availability in the coming years.
In addition to the historic home meet held on Saturday, September 21, at St. Norbert College, the team has competed in a total of ten meets and will be swimming Saturday at sectionals in Ashwaubenon.
“There were no tryouts. I encouraged anyone who was interested to join,” said Collison.
Collison brings a wealth of experience to her coaching role. A lifelong competitive swimmer, she currently swims with a Master’s team. “I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to coach the sport I love,” she said.
With a background in physical therapy, Collison finds that her expertise in both fields complements her coaching approach perfectly.
As a Division Two sport and a member of a small conference, the future of NDA swimming looks exceptionally promising.
