Notre Dame’s athletics department has contracted with GoFan to use online ticket sales for home sporting events.
“We’re kind of going into that era of technology with ticketing which is exciting but can also cause a little bit of uneasiness,” said NDA Athletic Director Matthew Koenig.
The reason for this experiment in the middle of a season is due to the expected capacity crowds entering the Triton Center when the boys basketball team takes on Ashwaubenon and De Pere later this season. When the boys traveled to Ashwaubenon and De Pere earlier this season, the games were sold out.
“It’s been on the radar for a couple of years. After Covid is when people started to use online ticketing,” said Koenig.
The online tickets will be used during both the Ashwaubenon and De Pere basketball games and then move into a full-time role beginning next year, assuming the test run with the app is successful.
GoFan themselves will not charge NDA anything. The only money spent was on two ipads to be used as a scanner. The company itself earns money through each ticket purchased.
“We will probably still have the cash option until people are more up to speed with the app,” stated Koenig.
He also mentioned that the students and families who buy a family pass on the app will not have to pay for the tickets, but still need to scan to get into the game. In other words, they will still need to have a downloaded ticket but not be charged for it.
“It won’t change anything this year. We will use it for those two basketball games, and maybe we would have to do it for a regional finals game,” said Koenig.
This is certainly a change, and the athletic department is hoping it is a change that will make supporting NDA athletics in the future much more convenient.
