On Monday, October 2, juniors in Personal and Professional Skills took a field trip to Green Bay Packaging and the Paper Converting Machine Company.
This was the second field trip of the year for the students, who took their first field trip to Bellin College last Monday.
The field trip allowed students to take a tour of both Green Bay Packaging and the Paper Converting Machine Company, as well as made them aware of the different career opportunities available at these companies.
Some of the highlights of the tour were learning about how sustainable Green Bay Packaging is as well as seeing all the different machinery at the PCMC.
“The Career Explorations Program provides students the incredible opportunity to see Industry 4.0 firsthand right here in Green Bay’s manufacturing industries,” said Mr. Christian Dory, who heads up the program. “Students gain a much deeper understanding of the vast variety of careers it takes to operate manufacturing facilities at such a scale.”
Students in the class agreed that the field trip opened their eyes to the fact that there are more jobs in manufacturing than just operating the machines, such as engineering and working in IT.
“I never considered working at a manufacturing site before the field trip,” said Ally Paprocki. “But after the field trip, I think I would consider it.”
That is what the field trips are designed for: opening students’ minds to new job opportunities and helping them decide what they do and don’t like.
The class’s next field trip will be next Friday, October 13, to Kirkland Farms.
