“I have just passed the one month mark as an English teacher in South Korea! I am in a small rural town called Anjung that is about 1.5 hour bus ride from Seoul. I am placed at an all-boys Middle School which is definitely an interesting experience, but I really love teaching!!! Because I’m in a rural place, I have been spending a lot of my time during the week reading and learning Korean, and I am surprisingly enjoying the slower pace. Actually, I recently reread Chekhov’s short story “The Bet” that we read in IB English class because I realized this time in Korea is a bit like the 15 years of solitary confinement that the main character chose (although not at all as extreme, of course).
