Senior Allie Lagowski organized events for tonight’s football game to raise money for Ribbon of Hope, an organization that offers financial assistance for cancer treatment.
The game-night events are a follow-up to a pink-out dress day at school. Students who bought a pink ribbon pin for $2 had permission to dress in pink on Friday.
The senior organized a bake sale and a prayer at halftime. She also gained permission to collect donations from fans at the football game. Her goal is to raise $1000, which represents the amount of money Ribbon of Hope initially provides cancer patients to help pay treatment bills or transportation costs for treatment.
The NDA Baking Club is contributing sweets to the bake sale, and Lagowski’s mom is helping sell chili and run the sale.
Lagowski was inspired to organize this personal service project after her mom was diagnosed with cancer and the many people who came forward and shared their experiences.
“My favorite part of organizing this was being able to connect with so many people. I am so proud of all the teachers who went out of their way to help me and all the students who donated a little extra just because,” she said.
Lagowski admitted her service project took a lot of planning and preparation for approval from Mr.Geno McKenna and the school administration.
She hopes that other students will continue the project after she graduates.
