It’s Golden Apple time again!
Six NDA teachers had the golden apple of nomination on their classroom doors last week as Principal Andrea Hearden interrupted class to announce the nominees.
“Teachers are nominated by students, families, coworkers or anyone who knows about their teaching,” explained the principal. “It always feels good to know someone took the time to recognize your efforts in the classroom. I am grateful to everyone who nominated NDA faculty members. We have amazing teachers here!”
Nominated were Mrs. Hailey Anderson, Mrs. Katie Bialk, Mrs. Andrea Gilson, Mr. A. J. Giovanetti, Ms. Tina Harpold and Mrs. Caitlin VandenWynngaard.
The area-wide celebration of educators and recognition of the Golden Apple winners will be held April 2, 2025.
While several NDA teachers have been nominated before, and some have been named Teachers of Distinction, only two have received the ultimate Golden Apple Award.
Indeed, one of this year’s nominees, Mrs. VandenWynngaard, was last year’s Golden Apple winner. Former English teacher Stefanie Jochman, now teaching in the D. C. area, was the school’s first Golden Apple winner.
VandenWynngaard commented about the award and expressed her appreciation of being nominated again: “I am truly honored that someone took the time to complete the application to nominate me for this award. Being considered for a Golden Apple is not just about what you teach, but about how you inspire, encourage and positively impact the lives of your students. This nomination is an incredible honor, and I am deeply humbled that someone thought of me in this way once again.”
