Whether you enjoy creating art pieces, singing, dancing, or even doing skits, you can sign up to display your talents at Cabaret Night.
For those who don’t know, Cabaret Night is an event that takes place at NDA where any student or staff member has the opportunity to showcase their creativity.
It will take place on March 27, which means that if you plan on submitting something for the event, it’s time to start preparing.
This year Director of Activities Jennie Laaksonen (Frau) has initiated a new event called the film festival.
There is now an opportunity to submit a short film that will be played on Cabaret Night. The film must be four minutes or less and family friendly. To submit, you won’t need to obtain approval for your topic.
The art show as usual will fill the library and halls around the library. Anyone can submit art, even if you aren’t in art class.
Art teacher Tina Harpold explains the process of submitting art: “There will be a form sent out which will also be in the written announcements. To submit art, you must have a title, dimensions, and a good quality photo of your artwork. Your artwork also needs a colored border around it.”
The form must be submitted by February 24, and by the end of the week the artist needs to physically turn in the art piece.
The art will also be judged, and the winning work will become a part of NDA’s art collection. The artist will win a prize that will be announced and delivered the night of Cabaret.
Cabaret Night is free, so the entire NDA community is encouraged to come and enjoy music, art, dance, stand-up comedy, the film festival and everything else students and teachers decide to do.
“Cabaret Night is the best event of the second semester–or maybe the whole year,” said veteran English teacher Carolyn Brown. “Students and family members can watch someone play the piano in the library, sit in the Commons for music from band members, go in the auditorium for the ‘big acts’ or check out all the art in the library and halls. No one can see everything. It’s too much, but it’s so good!”
Food will also be provided by the band families.
