NDA Serves will return on April 16 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Students, faculty and some parents will be serving at various schools, businesses, and other organizations in the Green Bay area. From cleaning up the environment to organizing a school library, there is no shortage of service activities for the NDA community to take part in.
I worry though that my fellow classmates do not fully appreciate the significance of this outreach program. Instead of focusing on the community service aspect, we view NDA Serves as a way to get out of school or complain about it being a required activity.
As Christians, Tritons, and leaders, I believe we have a duty to uplift and serve our community, which is why I am grateful to attend a school that holds service as one of its core values. Last year, I served at Keller Elementary School organizing books. What sounded like an ordinary task ended up being one of the most memorable experiences I have had at NDA, and I look forward to serving again this year.
So next Tuesday, instead of just being excited to hang out with your friends after 12 p.m., try to also be excited about serving. Pay attention to how others react to your help, work hard and find the meaning in your service. Let’s represent NDA in a positive light and show our community what makes our school so special.
