NDA students, staff and families volunteered their time at 60 organizations in the Green Bay community on Tuesday, April 16.
The volunteers made new connections with their community and gained new insight on the services these organizations provide.
“I served at the Golden House,” said senior Cassidy Green. “I picked this place because it serves people who are survivors of domestic abuse and need counseling.”
Green sorted clothes and “created a system to organize them with the goal of making it easier for volunteers to sort clothes in the future.”
“From this experience, I gained a greater understanding of the amount of behind-the-scenes work it takes to bring resources like this to people in the community,” commented Green.
Senior Camille Broullire spent her NDA Serves at the House of Hope after her cross-country coach gave the team a tour of the facility in the fall.
“I wanted to serve at a place that helps young people who are struggling, especially young girls, which is the mission of House of Hope,” expressed Broullire.
Broullire’s group toured the shelter, became informed about the needs of the different people living there, and learned how the organization is advocating for lawmakers to write just laws.
“NDA Serves is an important outreach into the community because it shows students a variety of ways to get involved. Having the opportunity to volunteer at a new place can spark interest on different issues and encourage students to get involved in organizations they did not previously know about,” explained the senior.
