Girls volleyball season is now underway. After advancing to the WIAA state tournament last year for the first time in program history, the girls have big shoes to fill.

The team consists of Grace Campbell, Whitney DeMeuse, Meg Dwyer, Corinne Meglic, Maddie Reitz, Syd Slack, Regan Umentum, Morgan Van Drisse, Annabelle Whatley, Melissa Wilke and Meghan Yakel. The girls are coached by Head Coach Ben Wolf and Assistant Coach Denise Kapalko.

“We are only a few weeks into the season, and it has been going great so far,” said junior hitter Sydney Slack. “This year’s team has a lot of experience and knowledge of what it is going to take to get back to the Resch. Everyone’s been working really hard every single day in practice. With our current 19-1 record, everyone is able to tell that it is going to be another season to remember!”

Junior hitter Grace Campbell said, “It is a really talented team, and I think we will go very far this year.”

Senior setter Corinne Meglic will lead the team. She has been playing since she was in sixth grade and has never lost the love for the game. She kept playing school and club volleyball for all those years and made so many memories that it made her never want to stop playing. For this reason, she will continue her volleyball career at Samford University in Alabama.

She hopes that this season the team will win conference and make it to state again. Also, she hopes that as the season goes on the team chemistry will continue to grow.

“I am looking forward to making many unforgettable memories this season with the girls,” Meglic said.

Meglic’s favorite thing about her current team is that they love to laugh and have a good time with each other. They like to goof off and just be silly.

Meglic said, “This helps us to play loose during games and just have fun.”

Before their games, the team usually goes to Subway to eat. When they travel, they sing to their favorite pump-up playlist on the bus.

The team also writes WIN on their hands with black sharpie. “It has been a tradition for as long as I can remember,” said Meglic.

The girls have started the season off strong with multiple victories in tournament play. Then on Thursday, September 8, the girls dominated Southwest to start conference play off 1-0.
