Senior tight end James Flanigan recently became Green Bay Press Gazette’s Cellcom athlete-of-the-week by receiving a record number of votes.
Flanigan received 26,266 votes to win the award for the week of September 16-21.
“It means a lot to be voted athlete of the week,” explained Flanigan. “To have so many people support me and the football team is awesome. We are truly grateful for it.”
Flanigan and the rest of the Triton football team have been having a very successful season.
Flanigan said, “We have really come together this year. I know my guys have my back, and I have theirs. There is a lot of trust in this group.”
The Tritons improved to 7-0 on the season with a shutout victory over Sheboygan South on Friday night.
Christian Collins led the Tritons to their 59-0 win with five rushing touchdowns.
Jack Whitehouse and Charlie Hornacek each had an offensive touchdown of their own. Hornacek also recovered a fumble for a touchdown.
Nick Gruesen remains perfect on the season. He made his one attempted field goal and eight extra points in Friday’s win.
“We are looking to finish out the season undefeated, and then make a run to win state. We have a long way to go, but we have put in a lot of work, and we are confident in ourselves,” said the tight end..
The Tritons have two regular season games remaining before they work to make a deep playoff run.
They look to move to 8-0 next Friday night as they travel down the road to face Green Bay West.
