Boys Hockey Off to Great Start–As Usual!

Three things in life are certain: death, taxes and the success of the Notre Dame Academy men’s hockey team.

The hockey team is off to another dashing start going into the month of December. They are sitting tall at 3-0.

The guys look to improve from last season’s 15-6-7 record, which is expressed by this hot start to the 2019-2020 season.

The Tritons hockey team did not play scrubs these first few games. Rather, they participated in a tournament in Eau Claire.

“We beat Wausau West and won 5-2. They beat last year’s state champions. I think that we made a statement in that game,” said Tim Geocaris, a senior on the hockey team.

Last year’s state champions, the Milwaukee University School, are no joke this season either. The Tritons will play them later on in the year.

Being one of the top teams in the state this year, the hockey team has a target on their backs within their conference games.

“We know we have to go out and perform every night because everyone’s going to bring their best against us,” said senior Sam Peterman.

The Tritons are led in scoring by junior Brendan Poshak with five  goals and are led in assists by senior Sawyer Scholl, who has eight so far this year.

Poshak recorded a hat trick (3 goals in one game)) against Wausau West, who is currently ranked third in the state.

Another key piece for the Tritons hockey squad this year is goalie Bo Buckley, who currently has one of the highest save percentages in the state.

“He’s really the backbone for our team, and he’s been great for us this year,” said Scholl.

Another tough team for the Tritons this year will be Hudson.

“Hudson, University School of Milwaukee and Wausau West are all fast teams that play physical. We got tested with Wausau West this year already, so we know where we rank with these top teams,” said Peterman.

The Tritons hockey team won their most recent game versus Edgewood, in their own rink, 9-1.

The team’s next game is this Friday at Cornerstone against Waukesha.
