Both Basketball Teams Head Into Post-Season Play

This year’s boys and girls basketball teams have been rather impressive, and the excitement is high as they both head to the playoffs.

The girls are the number one seed in regionals and have been ranked top ten or twelve in the state all season.

They are in a very competitive conference that consists of many larger schools.

Their biggest highlight is beating the number one ranked Division I team, Bay Port, who had not lost since last year and was on a 27-game winning streak.

The boys currently have eight wins and nine losses and are the sixth seed in the state tournament next week.

“Overall they have much improved since last year,” said Athletic Director Matthew Koenig.  “They’re a good young team and fun to watch.”

He believes the boys will be very competitive and have “a chance to surprise people.” Their biggest highlight, in his opinion, is the fact that they’ve tripled their wins since last year.

Mr. A. J. Alexander, head coach of the boys team, said, “Highlights on the season included our win at Ashwaubenon (at the time ranked 10 in Division 2), our buzzer beating win vs Pulaski, our road win against De Pere (top 3 team in conference) and our win against Sheboygan South on Friday (they have the leading scorer in the FRCC).”

“In regards to how far we will go, I tell the boys that we will take it one game at a time regardless of who we play. To focus on the task at hand first and seek improvement each day,” he said.

Schedules and times for both teams can be found on the NDA website, and due to these games being part of the playoffs, athletic passes will not be accepted.
