Recently, four Nordic skiers from NDA were named to regional championship teams.

Sophomore Lachlan Chambers and junior Joseph Stumpf were both named to the Great Lakes National team in the U16 and U18 categories respectively.

The team consists of some of the best skiers in the region, as young skiers must finish top 4 during the season.

These two will be competing at the 2022 U.S. Ski and Snowboard Junior National Cross-Country Ski Championships that are taking place in Minnesota this March.

Stumpf has been skiing for most of his life–starting at the young age of three and skiing competitively beginning in sixth grade.

He explained that skiing is fun to him because “It’s different and you get to hang out with the people on your team a lot.”

Making the team has been a goal for the junior for a while.

Chambers has been skiing since he was 10 years old and has been skiing competitively since he was 12 or 13.

“I never thought I would make it so it’s very cool to see that I was able to do this,” explained Chambers.

“I’ve been putting in a lot of work over the last three years to get to the point that I am at now,” said Chambers. “We have practice almost year-round. In the summer. I do summer running for cross country. During the weekdays and on the weekends I go for long skis and runs with the ski team. I train three days a week and weekends, and I spend a lot of time on my own working to become the best version of myself that I can be.”

Getting onto this team wasn’t always a goal of Chambers, but after the first few races this year, he realized that making the team was an achievable goal, and thus began to train.

Additionally, juniors Beckett Chambers and Isaac Nowak were named to the Great Lakes U18 team to compete in the New England High School Cross-Country Ski Championships this March; however, due to prior commitments, Nowak declined.

Chambers (junior) has been skiing for a total of six years, and it is his second time making this team.

“To get on this team really just takes a lot of time and dedication, which means training almost every day of the week, year-round, even if there isn’t snow,” he explained.

Growing up in a place where it is winter most of the year, the older Chambers enjoys finding a way to enjoy the season, which is why he enjoys skiing.

These four skiers also competed with the NDA nordic ski team in the Wisconsin State Nordic Meet on February 12 and 13..

At this meet, Stumpf, who placed sixth overall as high school male, helped push his team to a third-place team podium finish.

“Congratulations to all of our NDA Cross-Country Skiers on their successful seasons, and we are proud of those of you continuing on into championship seasons,” said Mrs. Sarah Stumpf, one of the advisers/sponsors to the team.
