Notre Dame’s girls volleyball team is up and running, but this team will not look like last year’s team did. With the new season comes two new coaches.

This year, the JV2 team and Varsity team are both completely coached by new staff. The addition of Lauren Griepentrog as the coach of the JV2 team and Katrina Costello as the coach of the Varsity team will lead to some changes as a team.

According to Athletic Director Matthew Keonig, Costello “brings an abundance of knowledge and competitiveness to the sport of volleyball. It is very clear she wants to develop players and build a program with it.”

Costello has been coaching for about 14 years with experience at all age ranges and levels of play. In addition to coaching, she is also the Club Director at Impact Volleyball Club out of Appleton, Wisconsin.

When Costello heard about the position, she “jumped” at the opportunity. “I love that NDA embodies the whole athlete and pushes athletes to excel in their classroom and in sports,” she stated.

With the recent addition of Coach Costello, the program also gained

Coach Griepentrog, who recently graduated from Carroll University.

Griepentrog not only coaches volleyball but has played competitively as well. She has played club volleyball at the national level since she was 12 years old and went on to play college volleyball at Carroll University as well.

“I am excited to get to know the Notre Dame program along with seeing my girls learn and grow as players. I am very thankful for the experience and to be able to grow with the Triton volleyball program,” Griepentrog said.

Mya Kapalko, a senior at NDA, is part of the volleyball team and has also played volleyball at Impact Volleyball Club for the past three years.

“I really enjoy that Coach Costello holds us accountable on and off the court. She has been a great coach so far and I can’t wait to see what this means for Triton volleyball.”

The team has their first conference game on September 8 at NDA as they take on the Southwest Trojans.
