Student Government members, under the direction of executive adviser Frau Jen Laaksonen, are once again organizing the semi-formal  Winter Dance on February 4, 2023.

“It is a concert style set-up but not to the extent of Fall Fest. It is not a typical DJ setup,” Laaksonen said.

Student Government members and Laaksonen are excited about the upcoming event.

“The executive board has been trying to find new and exciting ways to change the dance and make it better,” said Jacob Vanooyen, student body president.

The Winter Dance is undoubtedly a welcomed activity in the doldrums of winter.

Laaksonen acknowledged her appreciation of the “group that meets and is connecting to meet and to plan for the dance.”

“The Winter Dance is not as expensive as Fall Fest, costing Student Government about $3,000,” Laaksonen said.

Cost for students to attend is $10.

The adviser noted the Winter Dance is like Fall Fest but not as elaborate or fancy.

“The dance is semi-formal so that means for female students it is less dressy than Fall Fest, and for guys, it is the same, a sweater and a tie or a shirt and a tie,” she said.

“To bring a guest from other schools you need to pick up a guest form in the main office and then have it filled out by that guest’s family and school and then returned to us by January 27th where we approve it,” Laaksonen said.

Although the Winter Dance is in February and around the time of the “old” Sweetheart Switch Dance, it will not be Valentine’s Day themed and will just act as a normal dance.

“We want everyone to feel welcome and not alienate people who have no relationship who still want to come,” Laaksonen said.
