A. J. Giovanetti: Looking at NDA from Both Sides

Jameson Verdegan, Staff Writer, Advanced Journalism

A member of the Notre Dame Academy staff is experiencing two different sides to high school–from being a student not too long ago and now as a current staff member.

A.J. (Anthony John) Giovanetti, a 2004 graduate, is now the strength and conditioning coach for Notre Dame.

Being here as a staff member has been a good experience for him.  “It has been great being able to work with so many people who have had a huge impact on my life. There are so many faculty members that I have learned a lot from as a high school student and continue to learn from today as a fellow faculty member. I hope to have the same impact on my students/athletes here at NDA as so many have had on me.”

As a student here, Mr. Giovanetti was a center on the football team.. As a senior,  he was first team all-conference and first team Green Bay Press-Gazette All-Area.  His senior year the Tritons won the WIAA Div.III state championship, an event “most meaningful” to him.

The conditioning coach cited Coach John Nowak and Mr.Matt Schultz as two members of the staff that inspired him during his days at NDA.  Coach Nowak, he said, always had high expectations for him and pushed him to be better every day. Mr. Schultz he cited for his “high passion for knowledge and love of NDA.”

He has no regrets about high school and said he “wouldn’t change a thing.”

“High school was a great time in my life. It was a lot of fun, but also a lot of hard work. But, the hard work is what made it all great in the end. In high school I was able to meet a lot of great people.and develop a lot of great relationships, many of which continue to this day. I have lots of fond memories of my NDA experience.”

It’s probably safe to say Notre Dame has always been the same in the way that the school has always been a caring community, wanting students to succeed. Notre Dame is always going to be a home away from home for many people.
