With final preparations in full swing for Footloose: The Musical, the pit orchestra, led by band director Steve Johnson, has been hard at work making sure all of the music is ready to go.

Footloose would not be able to go on without the hard work and dedication from Mr. Johnson, the students in the pit, and all the musicians who have worked together to make this show possible.

“The thing I’m most excited about is seeing the students involved in the production in the pit, on stage and backstage in ways they weren’t able to last year because of COVID. It’s great to see them working together and connecting. It’ll be a great show,” said Mr.  Johnson.

The orchestra is made up of 16 talented students in the pit along with pianist Mrs. Nancy Gapinski, guitarist Mr. Matt Hillman, and conductor Johnson. The band is feeling the same excitement and anticipation for opening night as the cast and crew.

“I’m excited to watch it all come together,” said Hannah Beals, a junior who is a student musician in the pit.

Footloose is set to be an out-of-this-world production with music from songs we all know and love, along with music and instrumentals most of us are hearing for the first time.

Music sets the tone for the scenes and actions taking place on stage.  Having all the different instruments and musical aspects come together is a work of art in and of itself.

According to one cast member, “The band is truly what brings this show to life.”
