Mr. Scott Mallien is a name very well known at Notre Dame Academy.

Freshman Maggie Miller said, “He is the best teacher ever, caring, polite, and the nicest man all around. I learned a lot from him.”

This year he is not only a teacher, but he has also taken on the role of becoming NDA’s first assistant athletic director.

He works with Mrs. Jeanne Stangel, the new athletic director, and completes a variety of different tasks.

“I schedule workers for events, manage home sporting events, and do various other tasks that need to be completed in order for our sports to run smoothly,” said Mr. Mallien.

Mr. Mallien took this job for many different reasons. He has always been involved in athletics throughout his teaching career and wanted to support the school and athletes in another area outside of coaching.

“This position will allow me to work with a variety of sports, a larger group of athletes, both boys and girls, and coaches,” he said.  “I will be able to reach more athletes and make a much greater difference to Notre Dame Academy athletics and the NDA community youth programs.”

With the time commitments of teaching and the demands of the assistant athletic director position, plus to avoid the conflict of interest, he will no longer be able to coach football, basketball and track–a year-long commitment. His coaching days will end after the current football season.

“It will be very difficult and sad to not be able to coach, as coaching has been a large part of my life for the past thirty years. I am very grateful to Coach Nowak for giving me the opportunity to be a part of the football and track programs and Coach Rohde for the girls basketball program.”

NDA has high levels of athletic participation.

As Mr. Mallien said, “Our goal is to continue to build and grow the strong foundation of athletic excellence here at NDA.”
