Director Crystal Dory announced this week that a comedy called Deceiving Granny will be the 2023 spring play.

The play features a recently married couple who “stretch the truth to a breaking point in an attempt to inherit a fortune from a grandmother they have never met.”

With the help of their friends, the newlyweds go to extremes to pull off the scam despite a curious cop, a cautious attorney and two very confused burglars.

On the choice of the spring play, director Mrs. Crystal Dory said: “This year’s choice will not disappoint – it is HILARIOUS!”

Each year, Dory peruses dozens of plays and reads around six scripts to ensure the chosen play is the perfect one.

Deceiving Granny will offer 12 to 14 speaking roles with the possibility of four to six extra roles.

Auditions for the play will be held on Tuesday, February 21, and Wednesday, February 22. They will run from 3:30-5:30, and students only need to attend one of the audition days.

Those auditioning must bring a 2-3 minute monologue, and it is recommended that they memorize it.

Additionally, for the first time since NDA’s production of Clue in 2019, they will be building a set onstage.

“Definitely get involved in the play,” recommended Dory. “This is a fun production that we work hard on each year to bring a fun and entertaining show to NDA’s stage.”

“If being onstage is not your thing, you can certainly find your place backstage helping on the behind-the-scenes side of things,” she continued.  “There is a place for you in this production to find something that you love to do!”
