Everything New for This Year’s Academy Ball

The 2023 Academy Ball is set for Saturday, May 6, at The Ledgecrest Reserve from 6:30 to 11 p.m, with many changes over previous years.

The biggest change for this year is the venue itself. The Academy Ball has traditionally always been held at Tundra Lodge, but this year it will be held at The Ledgecrest Reserve in Ledgeview.

“I think everyone feels it may be time for a change. Tundra Lodge was amazing, and the people there were so great to work with, but it is also nice to keep things fresh,” said Frau Jennie Laaksonen, lead adviser for Student Government.

“We looked at a couple of places, and this was just a beautiful spot. We thought it would be a great new location.”

The dinner and dance setup will also be different this year. Unlike in previous years where the dinner and dance were held in two separate rooms, they will both be in the same location this year.

“The dinner is being catered by Runaway Spoon, which is new for us. We are also excited that we have a photo booth coming, and I think the guests will really like that new addition,” said Laaksonen.

The buffet style dinner begins at 7 p.m. with a spread of tasty foods, and the dance will follow shortly after.

A group of students have been working hard to make the night memorable, and that means decorating the venue to truly impress the attendees. The Academy Ball team of students will be decorating Saturday morning before the ball from 8 to 11:30 a.m.

“I love these opportunities to make memories for the students, and it is really nice to see everyone dressed up. It also seems to be historically a special night for seniors, whose remaining days as high schoolers are short lived,” said Laaksonen.
