Why NDA Is Right for Me

Joey Bonadonna, Staff Writer, Advanced Journalism

My experience as a student at Notre Dame Academy has been a very important part of my life. I’ve been at a Catholic school for all of my education to this point so coming to NDA was a no-brainer. Living in Suamico in the heart of Pirate country, most of the kids in my neighborhood went to Howard-Suamico schools and were going to Bay Port. But, my mom wanted me to continue with my Catholic education at St. John’s, Holy Family and Notre Dame.

In middle school, I remember going to football games on Friday nights, watching the football team win state in sixth grade and playing for the Allouez Buccaneers on Saturdays for some games at Ted Fritsch Field. I knew when I went to Notre Dame, I wanted to play football. Freshman year came and football was very difficult for me. By the end of the season, I was very tired and had sustained two concussions. I wanted to quit. However, I found different outlets to stay involved.

Starting my sophomore year, I became the manager of the football team. I helped with film equipment and statistics. Even though I wasn’t playing football, I found a way to be a part of a team. Including football, I started managing the boys’ basketball team as well. I’ve fully enjoyed the opportunities to be a part of both teams and build relationships with great players and coaches.

Outside of my managerial duties, I’ve participated in a lot of organizations and activities. I’ve been in musicals, played golf, and this year, I started writing for the Tritonian, serving in the Outreach Branch of Student Government and helping out with ASTRA. In those activities, I’ve made memories that will last a lifetime. I truly have developed meaningful relationships with everyone I’ve worked, played and performed with.

Notre Dame Academy feels like a home away from home to me. I couldn’t imagine myself at any other high school. The sense of community in every single activity I’ve participated in has been something I always look forward to in my experience at NDA. If you’re reading this and are discerning which high school to attend, I recommend Notre Dame Academy, because you will find a community like no other in these halls.
